Just a few things i want to improve on in second year.
- Public Speaking is something that has always been something that scares me. Having to stand there and see people watching me i hate talking because i get nervous and can't talk properly
-Editing i want to get to a lot more about different software and hopefully start producing more videos from this i also want to get to know photoshop a bit more
-Deadlines i want to start setting more deadlines for coursework because sometime i felt i have rushed it and i need to make sure i put more effort into work
-Getting involved I want to do more things next year make sure i really get the most out of my time do something i have not tried before. This way i will have more to add to my portfolio

Crossroads
Where Have I come from?
I come from Birmingham. I live in a town called Streetly where i have lived for about 17 odd years. Its not a bad place to live but it's not the best really. School was a difficult time for me and being creative was sometimes my only output. More music back then really i felt i could be myself when i had got my headphones in chilling to my music. But when i got to college i found myself a lot i enjoyed entertaining people talking to people and not being my usual shy self . This also when i got into media as well i started my journey that i am still on. Certain events in my life have put me off course but right now i feel i am in a good place and i hope it stays this way.
What is important to me?
Not much really my course is my main concern at the moment as i want to make sure i pass university and go on to a good career path. Also i hope to get involved in animal right stuff
What people are important to me?
All my family and friends back home are the main people i care about. Then there is people on my course and my flat mates who i have got to know over the past few months. Also my Guinea Pig Marvin i love that little man too much bless him.
What is hindering me?
Humm hard one. I can't really answer that at the moment but maybe some of my own personal skills are holding back my full potential. I can be a negative person when it comes to myself
What Am i Afraid of?
My biggest fear is failing and i sometimes panic that i won't be up to the standards that are set for myself.

The Hive Project
So as part of my course we get the chance to gain some work experience in the form of a placement. I actually ended up doing two work placements and the first one i will be doing a review on is The Hive. This was a brilliant chance for me to get some experience i have taken a lot away from this project. The brief was to produce three videos for our boss Sean that can be shown to his students as well as at meetings.
The first client was Boo Boo Kitty Couture. The company is owned by Aislinn Ball and she hand makes vintage dresses for her clients. She was a real interesting character to look at as well she had a very vintage to look to her and had some massive tattoos. Filming her was great because it gave us the chance to get creative and Sean had gave us total control over the video just as long as we keep to the brief that was set by him. My role in the team was filming and recording i also took the role of sorting out meetings with Sean and keeping him updated with how we are getting on.
So the filming of Aislinn started when Sean offered us a job to film a big lecture he had put on called Fusion we spend the whole day filming and Aislinn gave a speech about her company and we found out a lot about her past and who she is as a person. Below is an image of me filming at the event. We was there for about eight hours in total and learnt a lot with setting up and filming for long periods of time. I took a few notes about what Aislinn had said and also managed to get a copy of the presentation she did at fusion.
Filming went great as well for me it was my first experience of going out and filming a client. We had prepared some questions for her to answer and she was more then happy with them and she had invited us to film at her studio. We took a risk of not going out before and doing a recce so the storyboard we prepared was not hundred percent accurate but we knew we could solve any problems that arose.
When we got to her office is was very obvious at first that she seemed a bit nervous and she said afterwards she found it more difficult talking to us then she would a big crowd but we remained professional and this helped her relax a lot more and the shots we got were great we used a Panasonic 151 for the still shots of her talking and the cut away shots used were with a DSLR. Afterwards when we was packing up Aislinn offered us a bit more work for some of her clients and she gave us an email for a burlesque dancer called Scarlett Daggers. This was such a pleasing result for us and for anyone looking to get into the media world need to get to know the importance of networking and building up clients because that way you may know somebody who perhaps wants you to make a video for one of their clients and it builds up a big network of people who you can turn too.
Once the filming had been done for Aislinn and edited it we could move on to the second client Pip Spoerry at Studio Made at NTU and interview her and the students she has had. Sean was impressed with the work we had done with Boo Boo Kitty so he said to put more effort into Pips video and if we had time start work on the third video but as it turned out we didn't have time for third video and Rachel Hayes the client was not happy about.
But back to Pip we actually had two meetings with her where we got given her brief and what she was expecting from the videos we was going to produce for her. Then the second one she gave us some images for cut away shots and also we had made some questions for her to answer and she organised the filming dates due to the students work so we had to make sure we kept time free for Pip as she was going to India for business.
Filming went just as well and this time round we learnt a bit more we changed certain positing's of the cameras that Pip wanted and it felt a lot better then the Boo Boo Kitty were was a bit nervous this time we wasn't scared to say if we didn't like something and this meant that the shots we got were a lot better and the editing was a lot more smoother and its basically learning from the past mistakes. Also we was working with more people this time. We interviewed three students with Pip. The shots above was us setting us the background and seeing if it looked good in the shot. We asked Pip to change it around a few times to make sure it looked good.
After all the editing had been done it was time to show Sean the work and we was happy with the work we had done and once we had shown Sean he was blown away. He admitted to being a bit nervous at first with us being students but he said that conducted ourselves in a great manner we had produced the videos he was looking for and it was smiles all round.
It all finished with the team presenting the work to staff at the university and The Hive. It was just an informal kind of thing but it was a big thing to me. This is something i was worried about because if we did bad all the praise Sean has gave us would of made him look stupid and we would of let him down so the pressure was on during the presentation of the work. I was a little nervous talking in front of people so this is something I have to work on but i managed to get though say my bit and then it was on to the premier of our work. Thankfully i went down well and we got a lot of praise and some decent feedback on where we can improve next time which was brilliant. A picture of some of the staff waiting to watch our videos
Thankfully we got a good reception and Sean has invested a lot of time into this project and i am thankful i had the chance to work on this project as I have learnt a lot from it just just in terms of being a creative worker but also being professional and in the long run this will benefit me greatly.Speaking in front of a crowd, working to a brief that a client has set for us. But really i was thrown in the deep end with no arm bands but i managed to swim and it has been a great learning curve. Sean has even offered us a bit more work for the summer which is great and i hope to keep in contact with him as he has gave us a reference and even said he would work with us again which is great.
If i was going to do a project like this again i would make sure i improve on my editing skills to make sure the videos produced look a lot more glossy and maybe use better cameras. But overall i felt my team work improved on this production i got a lot better at talking to people i know and even spoke in front of people which always makes me nervous.

My Placement at White Collar Zoo
So for my second placement i worked at a company called White Collar Zoo. Though in the end it was starting to progress it had a very tricky journey which in the long run can be a good thing but at the time my god it was tricky. I'm going to a self interview thing its pretty lame but its my blog so i'll do what i want.
So what was my placement?
Our brief was basically to produce a pilot online show for students. The show was to be about twenty five minutes long. My job was in production was filming and sound(just like my placement at The Hive) i also helped out with some acting(Its fair to say i won't be winning any oscars soon). It was a similar project i was involved in with the Notts Tv project that i did before starting placement. The videos made would be aimed at students
What did i do first?
Well i did a bit of research as should all students when they are looking to start on a project like this. What is your target market? what kind of shows are similar? that basic stuff is the most important so always do your homework before starting on it. The style of E4 was the most well know platform mixing interviews with music, gags and reviews so we needed to make something on this line but with a different approach but it needed to be quick and snazzy
So what happened after this?
Everyone had different plans which was a good thing for us. But we came up with a great little idea for the show. Our boss Guy had gave us five tracks from his label and we decided that the show was going to be called Zoo Loose linking it in with the name of the company. We would have like a Top Of The Pops countdown of the songs. The the idea was each week to do this. Then the first video was made up by Nick Cook to have a student version of cribs where we go around student houses. Sheree wrote a script for the show(Zoo Loose) and then we was going to do like a prank show and i had thought of a few ideas but we went with a review show instead.
So how did it go?
Overall it was a success in the end but it took a lot of hard work at determination. I think we had designed some well thought material. I was involved in filming two projects. James Fairclough had designed a review kind of show about the Walking Dead and i thought i would be pretty cool if maybe i could in the back ground kicking some zombie ass and then i helped filmed the zoo loose production show and i had my flat mate Adam Wright presenting.
These are some of the test shots i got of Adam before the production of Zoo Loose he had only just received the script so he did well to remember his lines.

We was pleased with all the test Shots of Adam so we felt comfortable going on to filming the actual thing. But first it was time to film the review show first and James sent me the script so i could prepare myself for it. Production got set back two times due to the cold weather but we decided to film on Woolaton Park in Nottingham. The rural area gave us the perfect back drop for the show. I also made sure i had props and make up for the filming. That is the script i got sent by James.
The production of the review had quite a few set backs. First overall we had problem with the weather it was windy and it effected the microphone so we had to get a make shift cover from James sweatband. But overall i felt it went well we used a range of different shots and we really did manage to pull it off. This is a shot from the filming.
Then we moved on to the filming of the Zoo Loose with Adam.
What Problems did you encounter:
First problem was once somebody doesn't pull their weight it can cause major problems be it meant that people got annoyed with each other and it meant a lot of the time things got delayed. Then some people felt they didn't have anything to do. The thing was i felt that Guy miss-treated a lot and i felt that our work suffered a little for it because we never got good enough feedback and we didn't even know if our work was going to be used. Also we never really received an official brief so we had to make up everything ourselves really. A lot of times Phil our tutor had to step in and help us out.
Overall Assessment:
I have enjoyed making videos and this is something I hope to do as my future job. I like working within a team and being creative but in the future when getting feedback i would ask my boss for information because i felt that sometimes Guy lacked that passion as he seemed more concerned about his business then what we was doing. Also i would make sure everybody gets their job done. But i was pleased with the stuff that we produced and we will be presenting stuff to Guy on the 5th June. The problems encountered will happen at some point in my life and i will use the ways i have used now to get around them. I hope our show gets picked up because i enjoyed making the Zombie theme and i would like to do a few more with my collegue James. Also if we do get picked up we could make a partnership with Broadway Cinema to film at the lounge every week because its a nice setting and you can change to lighting around to suit the mood and it could be something Trent Tv could look at getting involved with.
What advice would i give to future students?
First overall make sure you research the company a bit before starting there White Collar Zoo was really confusing because they wasn't sure what they wanted to be as a business. Never argue with work colleagues its just mayhem if you do and it never truly gets sorted.
When preparing for filming make sure you back yourself up in terms of checking equipment and bring spare batteries for the camera and microphone. Weather will always be your bane when filming outside you can not control mother nature

Plan For This Week
So this is my last week of first year at Nottingham Trent. I need together all my work together now so i can upload it to my blog as part of my portfolio and i also need to make a plan for how I'm going to spend my summer and how i will keep my creative juices flowing. Also my blog is being marked scary stuff hope it is liked arghhhhh. Then its back to work for the summer and then hopefully Year Two
My Personal Trajectory
Plans for when i have finished my degree:
I would like to move on to the top up year and then get a full degree but if something else comes up in terms of work i would take it and possibly do the top up at a later date. But i need to pass my first two years first so touch wood *knock knock*
Where will i be in five years:
Ill be 24 and hopefully i have a steady job. Hopefully it is in the media and i will be producing videos and also be in a part time wedding band. Even if i don't get a media job at first i will be happy as long as i am making money and have got a decent future.
It might be a rocky road but that is life and the down points are the moments we learn from.
If i was a colour what would i be:
Blue because i am a pretty chilled guy
If my life was a sound what would it be:
It would be a guitar riff. Be a gentle start a big and productive middle but then eventually it would have an ending.
My goals:
So my goal really is to be a success in the media world and have at least one well known video. Also to write a film. Also i want to be brilliant at editing
I will do this by getting a degree and working hard at uni while i have the chance.

Paul's Latest Task Park Duex
So the next part of Paul' task was to analysis a Year Two's blog and compare them to now and this time last year and see if they have changed.
I have chosen my good friend James Fairclough knowing him quite well from placements i will be looking at the difference in his blog from 1st year and review on the different categories
Technical:
Looking at the first year of James blog i noticed there is a lot of video content and a deep analysis but second yeah there isn't as much videos so it might be that he is moving in a different direction with his work.
Personal:
Both years of his blogs are pretty much the same they have got good detail and then at the same time have a bit of humor in it which is a nice touch because at the end of the day it is a personal blog and he is being open about his work
Problem solving/raising:
In his second years he has wrote about a problem he has encountered while on placement and compared to his first year stuff there is a lot more detail about certain problems he has encountered.
Descriptive:
James always puts a lot of detail into his work and this shows that he is very committed to all of his work though he might not have as much videos this year his detail in the blog is brilliant as when i'm reading it i can see that he has put the same amount of effort this year then he did last year but he has reflected more on it in second year. He has a lot more pictures which is documenting his journey and overall he has shown a lot of growth from first year. He writes about all the different projects he has been involved in and going back to his first year analysis he is going in the write direction to getting a good job
Reflective:
His first year posts showed a great amount of detail about what James wants to do. He analysis's the work that he has done well and shows the journey of year one well as i can see that he has grown. For the year two he has carried on this vain but has now included extra work that he has done like getting feedback from a client.
Working with James on a few projects has been good experience for myself and i have learned a lot from him and i plan to give experience to future NTU creative media students. I wish James luck for the future

Pauls Lastest Task (Part one)
Task Numbero Uno:
Name someone who inspires me?
This was quite hard because i don't really have anyone who inspires me so i will go for someone who i have a lot of respect for.
And who is that?
Well it is former England All-Rounder Andrew "Freddie" Flintoff. The hero of the ashes. The man to revive english cricket. The man with the brittle knees. The man on the pedalo? But who he is?
This is the man who got me into cricket watching him destroy the Aussies was brilliant and watching some of the batsmen playing against him you could see the fear in their eyes at playing against him. And as a batsmen he could smash any bowling unit with beautiful cricket shots and raw power. But unfortunately injury overshadowed his whole career but every time he got knocked back he always came bouncing back and that is what i respected about him he would run though a brick wall his country even if he was on his last knees. His last match for England was known for his run out of Aussie captain Ricky Ponting and he threw those massive arms up in celebration.
Born in Lancashire in 1977 he made his first class debut for Lancashire for in the 1995 season and made his England test debut in 1998 against South Africa and his first wicket was another giant all rounder Jacques Kallis. He endured a bit of frustration after this with critics focusing on his weight issues but he kept going and it was until 2004 he really released the shackles where at Edgbaston where against the west indies he smashed a brilliant 167 then he took the form into the 2005 Ashes i remember watching as kid thinking wow just wow the brilliance of the English side who against an Aussie side who were really at the top of there game was amazing to watch. Before the ashes started he had ankle surgery a few months before and he picked upself up to have a brilliant series again at Edgbaston he beat Beefy's record for sixes in an ashes innings with nine in total and he then took seven wickets as England won the match by two runs and what is known as one of the best test matches of all time. This image was took after the defeat.
After this he was injured more then he played he was England captain as England lost 5-0 and his career was on the downhill but in 2009 he picked himself one more time for the Ashes knowing it would be his last contribution for England and he didn't disappoint getting a brilliant five wicket haul at Lords and then his final game the run out of Ricky Ponting sparked the winning of the Ashes of the great Freddie Flintoff ended on a high.
After the 2009 Ashes his ankles and knees could take no more and the great man had to retire at the tender age of 31. He played 79 tests and had 3845 runs at an average of 31.77 and took 226 wickets at an average of 32. He also played 141 ODI with 3394 runs with an average of 32 and took 169 wickets at an average of 24. He has since become a big media personality appearing in adverts for Morrisons and had his own Tv show he then also had a come back into sports as a ...... Boxer. For me is a true English hero someone kids look up to he might of had some low moments but for me Andrew Flintoff was a legend and someone who shows even when you are on your last legs keep trying and it really is inspriational
